Final Hours For Cake Contest

That’s right folks, we’re entering the last few hours of our phenomenal cake contest! Your submission must be received no later than 11:59pm PST tonight. If you haven’t yet submitted your confectionary masterpiece, hurry while you’ve still got the chance.

Tons of new cakes are now viewable via the Threadcakes gallery and there’s plenty more to come. We’re getting swamped with cake photos as the last entries are rolling in. So if you recently submitted a cake, please be patient… it’ll be posted up as soon as possible. Chris has worked feverishly hard at keeping things running smoothly and he deserves props for a job well done.

Hang 10 (Submission, Verdict: 4)

Hang 10 - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever Totally rad design even if I am reminded of spaghetti. That sort of adds to the weirdness… it’s not necessarily a bad thing in this case.

My preferred color version is a toss up. It looks extra funky on the slate tee, but the white version feels more like actual beachwear.

Cherry Popsicles And Other New Prints

I Like Cherry Flavored Popsicles - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever

Amidst the crazy cake times, a new set of prints came out this week. I Like Cherry Flavored Popsicles is by far my favorite shirt in a long time, so it pains me especially that it’s on white. I absolutely adore it, but I absolutely loathe white. (It just doesn’t work on me, Labor Day or not.)

It’s the first Threadless shirt I’ve laughed aloud at in a long time, and I might just pick it up anyway, or sit quietly in the wings waiting for it to be reprinted on Dakota Slate, or hell, even Sagestone. Sigh. A boy can dream, right?

Kickin’ It With New Prints

Battlefield 1986 - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever

The Kickin’ it Old Skool Loves Threadless results are in, and Battlefield 1986 beat out the competition with its mad design skillz.

Threadless is kickin’ it with a bunch of other awesome prints this week as well. Five competition winners, one new Select tee, two reprints, a couple of Kids tees, plus several new hoodies.

I apologize that I’m cutting this entry short, but I’m sure you can manage to check ‘em all out for yourself. Just remember to save $3 on your orders with coupon code couponitdotcom.

The Island Dines (Submission, Verdict: 4)

The Island Dines - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever It took me the longest time (and reading through the comments) before I realized that the gray “rock” in the middle of the island is actually supposed to be an underground view showing the rest of the figure sitting at a table holding a knife.

That’s infinitely more amusing and interesting than my first impression. Perhaps the optical illusion benefits the concept in some ways… the survivors obviously don’t notice the danger either. Then again, I’m not in any particular hurry to wear a shirt that people will have to stare at for five minutes to understand.

Regardless of the message clarity, it’s a cute design. Using the color of the shirt as the sky and water is a delightful effect.

Jumping On The Bandwagon

I thought I’d get in on the Digg action so I finally made myself an account. Digging Threadcakes was a given, but I also wanted to share my love with Cotton Werks.

If you’re not in the know, Cotton Werks is a snazzy little shirt site run by Threadless artist slaterock. (I did an in-depth interview with him back in December, so check that out if you’d like more information.)

He’s still struggling with getting the word out, so do a fellow shirt-lover a favor and Digg Cotton Werks!

Consumable Cake!

So Ali finally convinced me to make a Consumable cake with her, and we had a blast doing it. (We figured it’s only proper that I submit a cake in the spirit of cake-good-times, after all.) It took about three hours, and we modeled it after one of her favorite shirt designs. (Rawr! for the win. :-)

I’ve documented the entire process here, with more pics, but I’ve mirrored it after the jump.

(And no, we can’t win. But it’s cake!)

Understanding bird song (Submission, Verdict: 5 + Would Buy)

I’m happy to report that my DSL is up and running again thanks to a replacement modem. I can resume my normal lurking around the Threadless site and blogging here at LT. (I like to think that I was missed, so just humor me here.)

With so much cake business going on lately, it’s easy to forget the meat and potatoes (no pun intended!) of Threadless: the design submissions. After all, without scoring subs and passing judgement on the talented and the terrible, we wouldn’t end up with such fantastic new tees each week. I’m using my free time then, at least at this moment, to focus on a design rather than the contest.

Understanding bird song - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever It didn’t take me long to find several submissions that really hit the spot. Understanding bird song is one of them because I find the whole animal + speech bubble idea very appealing. (Haven’t you ever wondered what birds and other creatures are talking about?) The hand-drawn look coupled with the fresh colors make it an all-around fun and wearable design.

The teacup is also a nice addition, although some users have commented that it distracts from the speech bubbles. Personally, I think it reinforces the image overall and creates a nice balance between elements. The bird might otherwise look crushed under the busyness of the bubbles.

I think it’s a lovely design especially suited for the Spring and Summer seasons. If kept on white, it’s a definite buy for me.

Verdict: 5 + Would Buy (View Submission)

Threadcakes.com Gets Dugg, 16,000 25,000+ visitors

So my efforts to get Threadcakes Dugg were successful, much to the bane of my server.

Click here and then hit refresh. If it’s still on the home page, you’ll see the traffic go up at quite a clip.

(Since I started this entry, it’s already up a 1,000. Crazy.) Oh, and major thanks to the Threadless crew for off-loading the site when it slammed my server.

Much love.

Threadcakes.com: Now With Less “Looking-Like-Ass”-ness

While the general style is the same, I’ve gone ahead and taken some of the clutter out. Hopefully the site is easier to read.

Also, don’t forget that I’ve added an RSS cake feed!

Oh, and please digg the site for me:

And check out the new cakes!

Greetings, Prints, and Cakes (Oh, My!)

Hey, everyone! I suppose I’m the new kid here, and having just completed a fifteen-minute struggle to sign in for the first time, I’m feeling less than competent with*anything*. I’ll still do my best to offer up a little something about this week’s mixed bag of new shirts.

First things first though, just a little background: I’ve been a Threadless girl for about a year now and have accumulated shirts aplenty to get me through one-too-many 8 a.m. classes (One.) My first shirt was Plus, one of the Red Cross benefit prints. Thanks to Chris for the opportunity to post, and I hope you all enjoy my contributions. Oh, how I hope…

On to this week’s new print hottness (with an extra “t” for extra emphasis):

Eclipse! - Threadless, Best T-shirts Everwar and peas - Threadless, Best T-shirts EverDisbelief - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever

Rollin Hatin, the new Select by Cody Hudson, cracks me up a la Weird Al’s “White and Nerdy.” While I’ll be the first to admit that I’ve never played ANY game requiring a 20-sided die, I definitely have known those who have. And do. And who would love this shirt. Even though the whole skull thing is more than a little played out, the nerdiness novelty of this tee makes it work. Plus, it has foil. FOIL! Only drawback? The shirt makes me start singing the original “Ridin’.” I’m not proud of it, but it’s true.

I literally laughed out loud in class yesterday when I saw Eclipse. Thankfully no one paid attention except the girl sitting next to me, who understands because she spends class time in a similarly scholarly fashion. Moon punching sun? Funny, I guess. Moon punching sun –> Eclipse? Classic. On a related note, is that black eye a sunspot?

I feel like I missed the boat (Puns are Fun!) on Magisterial Beauty. I like the style & detail on the building itself, but I just don’t get it. It’s a nice enough print without knowing the background, but if you know the story, enlighten me.

On to War and Peas. Pea soldiers. With helmets. No further description needed. Oh, hoodies!

Acoustic and electric get friendly on Living in Harmony. Like everyone else, I saw the zip-up hoodie and thought *omgmusthave*. Then I looked at the stock chart and cried a little inside (while my wallet cheered). It’s still available in a few sizes, and tees are still still fair game, so check it out.

I Have Something to Tell You. I’m an alien. Apparently you’re not. Maybe we can make it work. Maybe deception is an issue… (Cue ominous music)

Finally, Disbelief. We all love a little internet joke every now and then… especially one that looks as good as this. If you’re not loving the psychedelic feeling of the color scheme, it’s in black on the silver hoodie (which may be equally trippy because you tend to get more optical illusions in the monochromatic version… see the original sub for the close-up.)

Ah, reprints:

Impossible Love
You Sank My Battleship (with a fleece zip-up)

Real quick-like, since I feel like this is quickly becoming a marathon first post: Bake cakes! I’m still hoping someone will make a Consumable cake (Hint, hint! It’s even rectangular to begin with… no fancy cutting skills needed!), but the contest is getting more interesting daily. You’ve got a little over a week, so bake away (and maybe share your finished product with some friends. Or me.)

Woe Is Me

I wanted to offer up an apology for my lack of posts over the last couple days (and probably for the next few days ahead). My internet mysteriously quit working saturday evening after a brief power outage/surge/something. I’m waiting for a replacement DSL modem to arrive and I’m hoping that the modem was the only problem.

In the meantime, I’m stuck using dial-up. We get 20 free hours per month with our DSL plan, so at least there’s a backup (albeit painfully slow). Unfortunately, that means a major cutback in Threadless browsing and therefore less blogging. Most unfortunate of all, however, is less involvement in the cake contest. I was trying to keep up with everyone’s blogs, but when people post 20+ photos per cake-baking-process it’s simply impossible to keep up without high speed internet.

Hopefully things will get back to normal for me by the end of the week and I’ll do some catching up. Once again, sorry for my cutback in posts… keep on baking! And don’t forget to check out this week’s new tees and reprints, too.

Over The Hill?

RyanI wanted to take a moment to publicly wish Ryan Biesemeyer (our very own blogger and a good friend of mine) a very Happy Birthday.

Today he’s reached the ripe old age of twenty-three and can officially say things like, “kids these days” whilst giving disapproving glares.

Congrats, Ryan!

Threadcakes: Now with RSS, More Cakes

I’ve gone ahead and added a bit of a hodgepodge RSS feed over at Threadcakes for your happiness. Subscribe in your favorite feed reader, or tack it up as a live bookmark in Firefox. (This will explain what I’m talking about.)

We’ve added a few more entries, but I’m hoping they really pour in this weekend… We’ve seen some great designs so far, so let’s see what else you guys can do!

Check out Threadcakes.com for the skinny (heh), or check out the cakes feed directly, hot out of the oven.

Looking for inspiration? Again, Engadget’s contest had some very cool entries. But you’ll need to get started here, methinks.
