Not All Votes Are Created Equal

I’ve noticed that a number of Threadless users offer explanations on how or why they vote the way they do (either through comments on submission pages, within the blog forum, or even listed in their profile). As basic as Threadless’ scoring system is, I’ve realized that no two scores are really quite the same. A vote of “3″ may mean something completely different to one person than it does to another.

Voting Bar Just for fun, I’ve jotted down my own basic voting method and what the different scores mean to me. I admit that I’m not above casting the occasional bias vote (sometimes in favor of a design, sometimes not) and at times I make exceptions. For the most part, however, I adhere to this mentality:

$ - I would definitely buy this for myself or someone I know.
5 - I find this both conceptually and artistically superb. A wonderful design, I wouldn’t change a thing.
4 - A lot of great qualities. Overall I like it, maybe just a few minor areas that could use improvement.
3 - I could go either way on this. A decent design with several good qualities, but some aspects may be holding back its true potential.
2 - Not my thing. The art or concept just aren’t working.
1 - A pity vote. I really dislike this, but it’s not quite bad enough to deserve a zero.
0 - This should never have seen the light of day. A vote reserved for the most hideous, offensive, and downright ugliest designs.

So how do you vote? If you’d like to share, leave a comment.

    My voting system:

5 - If I rate anything a five, I’m going to put that $ in front of it.
4 - If I’m not going to buy it, but I like the concept and the art, I’ll go four.
3 - A score of three is kind of a pity score for me. It means I didn’t really care for it, but just the same, I can’t vote lower.
2-0 - If I really dislike a submission, depending on how much I dislike it, I will give a 2 or lower.

5 - I would buy it, but haven’t commited to the purchase yet.
    4 - Awesome design, I like it.
3 - Not quite sure, I like it.. but I’m not 100% on it.
2 - You tried, but its not for me.
    1 - Pitty Vote
0 - Same as 1.. when i see trash, which is frequent on Threadless I tend to go straight to 0 or 1 and depending on where my mouse was previously, its really a gamble as to whether its a 1 or 0.

Oh btw, it would be cool if threadless printed limited t-shirts.

I wouldn’t call printing 10,000 shirts and then selling all of them of the course of a few months “Limited Edition T-Shirts” .. They should find a medium where the shirts sell out in a weeks worth of time..

Afterall its not like Billabong calls their shirts “Limited Edition” because they print as many as they think they will sell..
