Troubadours, Zombies, And Bears. Oh My!

B Movie Nightmare - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever

It’s Monday, folks, and that means new prints! The hellogoodbye Loves Threadless competition winner has been announced with B Movie Nightmare (shown above) taking grade prize.

The other tees on the Threadless plate this week are:

- The Average Bear (appropriately printed in Kids sizes, too)
- That Way (another cute bear design)
- The Wandering Troubadours (wonderful illustration, just wish it was on khaki for girls)
- THIS Is How The World Ends (also spawned by the hellogoodbye competition)
- Never Gunna Give You Up… (the foxy Faesthetic tee announced earlier on Friday)

In way of reprints, we’ve got In Case Of Zombies making a speedy comeback and Ah Munna Eat Choo.

That’s it, so go check ‘em out while they’re fresh.

Beard Power (Submission, Verdict: 4)

Beard Power - Threadless, Best T-shirts EverI’m not really sure what to say about this design. It’s absurdly odd… yet cute.

It made me smile, so at the very least it deserves a little linkage.

A Foxy Tee For Think Feast Friday

Never Gunna Give You Up... - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever

The Threadless catalog is looking a bit bare in wake of the furiously quick $10 sale earlier this week. But Think Faest Friday has rolled around once again to bring us something new and snazzy.

Never Gunny Give You Up… by Maya Hayuk certainly doesn’t disappoint. It’s a very foxy design (both literally and figuratively) and like the other Faesthetic tees, this shirt not only scores you a free issue of the magazine but it incorporates some “unique” effects. This time around it’s super glow and suede ink.

Head straight to the product page or check out the other Faesthetic tees by visiting the Threadless Select section of the catalog.

RIP, Grandma…

You may be wondering why I haven’t been posting much.

My grandfather died two weeks ago, and his funeral was on the 20th. I came home from the funeral in Michigan to find my dog, Cisco was dying. He died roughly 30 minutes later, in the back of our Suburban (with me in back with him) on our way to the vet.

I just received a phone call informing me that my grandmother (on the other side of the family) has just passed away.

So I won’t be posting anything for awhile. I’m not even able to process this, quite yet. That the woman who taught me how to read when I was three, and whom I spent several hours a day during my formative years with has died, isn’t fair. Apologies for using this space to talk about something other than shirts.
Sometimes, life really just fucks with you.

RIP, Cisco: 1994-2006

I returned from my grandfather’s funeral yesterday to find my yellow Labrador of 12 years, Cisco, was not doing very well. (Yes, that’s a picture of him from many years ago, performing one of his favorite tricks.)

He was still alive, but he had clearly suffered some nuerological trauma (we think a stroke) and was on his way out. He was also very clearly waiting for us all to get there, since his decent was a speedy one once he recognized we were all there.

We quickly loaded him into the suburban and drove to the vet, less than a mile away. I sat in back with him, while he gasped, and took his last breaths.

It was probably the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. But I’m so very thankful that he didn’t have to die alone, that he waited for us to get there, and that we were all able to say goodbye to him as he made his transition. I don’t think I would’ve been able to take it if he had died alone.

I took some time to write up all the memories I could get out on Cisco, and I did so here, to showcase how incredible a dog he was. He was truly the best you could ask for.

I miss you already, pups.

Think Faest Friday Goes Deadless

Deadless - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever

Yep, it’s another Think Faest Friday. That means a new Threadless Select tee has hit the scene bundled with an issue of Fasthetic magazine.

I can’t say I’m particularly fond of this latest design… it’s downright disgusting. (Although that’s obviously what the artist was going for.) This one’s not for me, but I can see it becoming very popular among the undead crowd.

I’m too exhausted to formulate any further opinions right now… sidle on over to the product page and check it out for yourself.

Threadless Postcards

Postcard Yesterday I was delighted to find a little something extra in my latest shirt order. Besides the usual Threadless stickers, I also received a nifty postcard. The popular Afternoon Delight design is featured on the front, and the back reads:

Card 4 of 5. Collect all 5! Put ‘em in an envelope, include your email address, and mail all 5 back to us to get a $25 gift certificate.

Very cool indeed. The buzz in the blogs is that they’re nothing new, but you’re lucky if you find one randomly stuck into your order. That has me wondering if they’ll distribute enough that anyone will be able to collect all five different cards. And in the event that anyone does, there’s still the dilemma: send them back for $25 or keep the cards for yourself?

If anyone has photos or more info on the other postcards (or any other neat/weird things you’ve found stuck into your orders recently) then post a comment here or send an e-mail to: bree[at]lovesthreadless.com. Thanks!

EDIT: A big thank you goes out to Lori (aka pyr4lis) who pointed me towards another blog (besides the one linked earlier) which actually contains photos of the other four cards. Click here to check it out.

>8 (Submission, Verdict: 4)

Greater Than 8 - Threadless, Best T-shirts EverThis design proves itself quite awesome as far as cephalopod designs go. Bad shirt color aside, there’s an amazing attention to detail and shadowing.

It makes my skin crawl a bit thinking of those innumerable tentacles writhing about. Yet, somehow, it’s attractively grotesque.

An Eclectic Batch Of Prints

Planetary Status - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever Blow With the Wind - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever In Case of Zombies - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever

This weeks new prints are quite an eclectic batch. There’s a little something for everyone, from butterflies and lawn chairs to typewriters and zombies. If none of those tickle your fancy, there’s also some planetary and office humor thrown into the mix.

House of Freaks, by Matt Lyon, is the latest Select Tee. Remember, buying any of the Selects released during this month (so far this one and Fruit of the Negativitree announced last Friday) will score you a free issue of Faesthetic magazine.

By way of reprints, we’ve got The Morning After and Puppet Ballet making comebacks. It looks like there are no new Kids tees (scratch that – Dark Side of the Garden was added) or Type tees to speak of this time around, so that wraps it up.

Head over to the stock chart or catalog to have a look at ‘em all. Enjoy your shopping!

Those Who Govern Sleep (Submission, Verdict: 4)

Those Who Govern Sleep - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever This is one rad Science of Sleep Loves Threadless submission. It incorporates some weird (yet intriguing) imagery which the artist explains as being based upon dream meanings.

The line-work, although nicely detailed, seems a tad too busy… nothing stands out at first glance so it feels a little messy and all blends together. But that’s my only complaint, everything else I love and it fits nicely into the competition.

Think Faest Friday Comin’ At Ya!

Fruit of the Negativitree - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever

It looks like I’ll be holding down the fort (or blog, rather) over the next week since Chris has a lot going on. I’ll try to post as much as possible, but don’t expect a whole lot… I have two tests to study for, a speech outline to finish, and a million other things to do that unfortunately aren’t related to writing about tee shirts.

But enough of excuses and moping. For those of you who haven’t checked Threadless today, a new shirt was announced thanks to “Think Faest Friday”. No, it’s not another Loves competition (thank goodness), but something entirely different. Each Threadless Select tee released during this month of October is created by an artist featured in Faesthetic Magazine. When you purchase one of these special Select tees up until November 1st, you’ll receive a free issue of Faesthetic. This puts a nice spin on Select line and it’s definitely a great bonus considering that the magazine is printed in limited quantities running about $20 each.

The first offering, Fruit of the Negativitree by Ryan Santos, looks pretty sweet (see above). It’s everything we expect from the Threadless line: extra colors, a funky concept, and smashing art. Not to mention it glows.

Hopefully the rest of the Think Faste tees will be similarly awesome. If you’re not ready to part with $25, six new tees from the regular competition plus one new type tee and two reprints hit the shelves on Tuesday. Head over to the Threadless homepage or full catalog to check ‘em out for yourself.

Sacrifice to the God of Unnatural Order (Submission, Verdict: 5 + Would Buy)

Sacrifice to the God of Unnatural Order - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever Ah, delightful! Carnivorous plants always make for a fun design. The resolute body language of the farmers made me chuckle, this obviously isn’t their first “offering”.

I love the humor, the simple style (which is somewhat reminiscent of a woodcut), and the inverted color scheme. Overall, very nice… it’s something I could see myself wearing.

Flasher (Submission, Verdict: 0)

Flasher - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever Um… no.

This is barely worth commenting on. Flashing, like humping, is just something decent people seldom want to see on a shirt.

Oh My Virgin Eye being the one exception, of course.

Japan Life Style (Submission: Verdict: 1)

Japan Life Style - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever Japan Life Style is simply trying to be too many things at once. A busy design leaves me guessing what it’s trying to accomplish.

Is it saying that even Japanese-mountain-senseis like to play a bit of SNES 16-bit Chrono Trigger hotness from time to time?

Is the volcano (which bears more than a passing resemblence to Krakatoa) erupting, leaving aging-Geisha-woman to ponder: “Perhaps we should enjoy some Earthbound (or Mother 2 for the purists) before the flow hits. Our lives are meaningless.”

Or perhaps angry-handless-former-sushi-chef is simply left wondering why his normally faithful Japanese wife would dare mock his inability to join her in a game of Uniracers.

Would he had a hand with which to slap her.
In somber reverence, he sits.

It’s truly a tragedy. On so many levels.
