And now, for something completely different…

Loves Threadless is a bit myopic in its content. The concept is built around reviewing shirts, and that’s that, and all’s well. But I know that anyone who’s a fan of Threadless is certainly a fan of their own crazy collection of music, and I’ve been looking to perhaps broaden some of the content here.
I love all sorts of music, and I’ve looked around at Napster and Rhapsody and a few other services before, but never really tried any of them. Well, I’ve been getting into Pandora lately, which is an awesome, free streaming service that shows you all sorts of new music based on what you like. I coupled that with a totally cheap Rhapsody subscription, and I’m able to download an entire album in 2 minutes, CD-quality, and completely legal. Or stream it instantly through my browser.

As someone who’s always looking for more music to grab and love and share, I’m absolutely loving the entire unlimited quality of this.

Anyway, this is all by way of saying that you should at least take a look—they give out completely free trials that last 14 days, and I don’t usually shill for companies at random, (let alone Real) but I really think they’re on to something here.

Check it out here. Seriously, today alone I’ve downloaded Gnarls Barkley, Ivy, Paul Oakenfold, Raul Midon, Rubyhorse, Snow Patrol, The Jealous Sound, Zero 7, and a bunch of other full albums, all playing in Winamp. And in the mean time, if you’re up to it, leave a comment with whatever band has completely blown you away lately. I saw Jamie Cullum live in concert last night and am still working on getting over it. Anyone else have an awesome live show they’ve been to lately? Let us know. Broaden our horizons. Et cetera.

What’s the bitrate on the mp3s? I’d rather use something like torrents where I know the music I’m getting is quality.

The bitrate is completely CD-quality. It’s a 160 kbps WMA, which is equivalent to a 192kbps+ MP3. I don’t like compressed audio, which is why even the Napster trial isn’t quite as worth it.

You can listen to 25 free plays a month without even signing up for the trial through Rhapsody if you want to, without downloading anything but a quick extension for Firefox, and it should give you a good idea about the quality.
